LAWRENCE, KS–Our friends at Yankton Nation are in a legal battle against Longview Farms, LLP (a CAFO–contained animal feeding operation, otherwise known as a factory).
This is a battle of self-determination for our Yankton relatives and friends, and what happens with them in the courts will determine what happens for the rest of our nations regarding control and oversight of our traditional and secondary land-bases. In fact, many of our home communities may be dealing with similar issues regarding these animal factories.
All things are connected.
Any struggle begins with education, including self-education and community-education. Included in the links below is a helpful booklet regarding the health, environmental, and economic effects of these factories. These effects—-along with the issues of a nation’s sovereignty / control of and responsibility to its land-base and peoples—-are of critical importance to Indigenous Peoples and our allies.
More information is forthcoming at Last Woman regarding Longview Farms, LLP.
